Reza (ESR-6) participated in the International Conference of the Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (ICTAM) held from August 24th to 31st, 2024, in Daegu, South Korea.

Reza presented his results on multi-physics modeling with an oral communication for self-oscillations in immersed photoactive liquid crystal elastomer beams”.Well done, Reza!

Yasaman (ESR-10) participated in the 29^th International Liquid Crystal Conference (ILCC 2024) held from July 21st to 26th, 2024, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Yasaman gave an oral presentation showcasing her research on Magneto-Photo responsive Liquid Crystal Elastomers. Well done, Yasaman!

Erick (ESR-3) participated in the 29^th International Liquid Crystal Conference (ILCC 2024) held from July 21st to 26th, 2024, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Erick gave an oral presentation showcasing his research on 4D-printed magnetically-active liquid crystal elastomers. Good job, Erick!

Erick (ESR-3) participated in the 4D Materials Design and Additive Manufacturing Conference 2024, 4DMDA2024, celebrated in Ajaccio, France,  on 4-5 July 2024.

Erick presented his results on 4D-printed magnetically-active liquid crystal elastomers with an oral communication. Carlos Sánchez-Somolinos (CSIC), Coordinator of STORM-BOTS, also attended the conference, presenting the project and the work carried out by the CSIC team in STORM-BOTS.

Reza (ESR-6) participated in the 19th European Mechanics of Materials Conference (EMMC19) held from May 28th to 31st, 2024, in Madrid, Spain.

With an oral communication, Reza presented his results on modelling self-oscillation in liquid crystal elastomer beams under constant light. Well done, Reza!

Rahul (ESR-2) participated in the POLY-CHAR 2024: Polymers for our future (POLY-CHAR 2024) held from May 27th to 31st, 2024, in Madrid, Spain.

Rahul presented his results at the poster session. Well done, Rahul!

Zixuan (ESR-11) participated in the  International Liquid Crystal Elastomer Conference 2023, ILCEC2023, which took place in Boulder, Colorado, EEUU,  from the 8th to the 11th of October 2023. ILCEC2023 was attended by several STORM-BOTS members, including ESRs and supervisors.

Zixuan gave an oral communication titled Light-fueled self-sustained cilia on October 11.

Lovish (ESR-5) participated in the International Liquid Crystal Elastomer Conference 2023, ILCEC2023, which took place in Boulder, Colorado, EEUU,  from the 8th to the 11th of October 2023. ILCEC2023 was attended by several STORM-BOTS members, including ESRs and supervisors.

Lovish presented his results on the 3D director alignment of liquid crystalline structures using magnetic fields with an oral communication on October 10.

This is the first conference attended by Lovish within STORM-BOTS. Way to go, Lovish!

Michał (ESR-7) participated in the International Liquid Crystal Elastomer Conference 2023, ILCEC2023, which took place in Boulder, Colorado, EEUU,  from the 8th to the 11th of October 2023. ILCEC2023 was attended by several STORM-BOTS members, including ESRs and supervisors.

Michał presented his work on a poster titled Vector Slicer for rapid generation of print-paths for 3D printing of complex director patterns. Good job, Michał!

Paolo (ESR-4) participated in the International Liquid Crystal Elastomer Conference 2023, ILCEC2023, which took place in Boulder, Colorado, EEUU,  from the 8th to the 11th of October 2023. ILCEC2023 was attended by several STORM-BOTS members, including ESRs and supervisors.

Paolo presented his work on a poster titled Photochemically Induced Propulsion of a 4D Printed Liquid Crystal Elastomer Biomimetic free swimmer.

This is the first conference attended by Paolo within STORM-BOTS. Good job, Paolo!

Zixuan (ESR-11) has participated in the Workshop at Les Houches School of Physics, Bio-inspired aerial and aquatic locomotion, which took place from the 11th to the 15th of September 2023 at Les Houches, France.

The workshop aimed to present a complete overview of the latest developments in biolocomotion – the study of how animals move – a field between physics and biology. The program included talks from specialists in the field and shorter presentations and poster sessions.

Zixuan presented his work on a poster entitled Light-fueled torus swimmer in Stokes regime. Good job, Zixuan!

Giulia (ESR-12) has participated at the IEEE World Haptics 2023 conference, which took place in Delft,  the Netherlands,  from the 10th to 13th of July 2023.

Giulia presented her work on a poster titled Electrically Driven Liquid Crystal Elastomer Actuator Matrix for Haptic Surfaces.

She also learnt from the latest innovations in the field from seeing the demos presented at the conference!

Rahul Singh Yadav (ESR-2) is participating in the XXXIX Bienal meeting of the Royal Spanish Society of Chemistry which is taking place in Zaragoza, Spain, from the 25th to the 29th of June 2023.

He presented his results in the posters sessions on Monday 26th and Tuesday 27th.

Giulia Spallanzani (ESR-12) presented her results at the last Spring Meeting of the Materials

Research Society which took place in San Francisco, USA, from April 10th to April 14th, 2023.

She gave a talk titled Electrically Driven Liquid Crystal Elastomer Actuator Matrix for Haptic Surfaces.

This was the first conference attended by Giulia within STORM-BOTS.

Zixuan Deng (ESR-11) gave an oral presentation at the bi-weekly internal LIBER seminars, on November 11th.

These seminars are organised by the Center of Excellence in Life Inspired Hybrid Materials (LIBER), a consortium of eight multidisciplinary research groups from Aalto University, VTT and Tampere University (TAU).

Michał Zmyślony (ESR-7) presented a poster at this internal conference, organised by the University of Cambridge, where graduate students of this University presented their results.

Reza Norouzikudiani (ESR-6) presented his results on the equilibrium and transient response of photoactive nematic LCE beams with an oral communication at the International Workshop on Multiscale Innovative Materials and Structures 2022 (MIMS22).

This conference took place in Cetara, Italy, from 29/09 to 01/10/2022.

Zixuan Deng (ESR-11) presented a poster at the 1st LIBER symposium which was held on May 12th and 13th, 2022, at Espoo, Finland.

This LIBER symposium gathered 150 researchers, with over 10 invited speakers from distinguished research institutes from all over the world.
