Last October Dr Nadia Grossiord from SABIC delivered a three-session course on Wettability and Solubility Parameters organised by the Eindhoven University of Technology for PhD students, including our ESRs Eliza Sopubekova, Duygu Sezen Polat and Mert Orhan Astam.
Being able to govern and quantify wettability is highly relevant for a variety of systems, such as coating or printing process optimization and composite development.
The students were not intimidated by all the thermodynamics and equations involved but rather enjoyed going through the different aspects of the course: (1) theory behind wettability and overview of the various methods used to characterize the degree of wettability of fluids and solids, (2) practical examples and (3) solubility parameters.
